MOT testing during the second lockdown restrictions
What are the MOT extension rules?
During the lockdown in Spring 2020 the DVSA (driver and vehicle standards agency) extended MOT certificates for anyone who’s MOT was due between 30th March and 31st July for a further 6 months in an effort to reduce the number of people going out unnecessarily. However, during the winter lockdown, the Government had said that MOT’s should be carried out as normal and that no extension was likely.
As Tyre Shopper and our MOT and tyre fitting partner, National Tyres and Autocare are classed as an essential service providers all branches remained open across England, Wales and Scotland, serving all customers who had vehicle maintenance requirements including MOT testing.
Is there a backlog of MOT’s?
It is estimated to be around 9 million MOT’s which benefited from an extension in Springtime. This has impacted future years, where during the period of October to February it is likely to be the busiest time for MOT bookings as this is when those 9 million vehicles will need to be tested along with the usual MOT bookings due in this period.
At Tyre Shopper we are urging people to book early for an MOT with our fitting partner National Tyres to avoid being disappointed. National has over 140 MOT testing sites and as a Tyre Shopper customer, we are offering an MOT for £35 (36% off the current DVSA test fee) when you purchase a Tyre from Tyre Shopper.
How do I claim my discounted MOT?
Upon purchasing a tyre through Tyre Shopper you will receive a confirmation email containing a discount code to use when you book an MOT at national.co.uk or if you book an MOT direct with a branch you can provide the code when they are processing the invoice and the discount will be applied.
