Autumn Tyre Review - All Season Tyres
Why are all season tyres different?
It’s what the name suggests all season tyres are designed to perform in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, whatever the weather. They have improved handling on cold, wet, dry or slick surfaces.
All season tyres have special pliable compounds and different tread patterns, making the tyres more durable, resulting in a much smoother ride, better grip on slippery roads and improved braking distances.
What are the benefits of all season tyres?
Customers will often say the biggest benefit is not having to purchase two sets of tyres, one for Summer and one for Winter, which is understandable as this can be very costly, plus there could be an issue of where to store the other set.
The biggest benefit of all season tyres is they perform better in wet and cold conditions, due to their thicker tread. Special blocks built into the all season tyre treads help to expel water quicker, maintaining vehicle control and reducing the risk of hydroplaning.
What causes hydroplaning?
Hydroplaning occurs when water gets trapped between the tyre and the road, causing a vehicle to slide and lose control.
Can summer and all season tyres be mixed?
It is not recommended to mix different tread patterns and types of tyres, so if you decide to change to all season tyres, you would be advised to change all 4 tyres to ensure maximum safety.
How do I know if my tyres are all season?
All Season tyres usually carry the letters ‘MS’, which means the tyres are suitable for mud and mild snow conditions. Sometimes you will find an image of a snowflake on the tyre sidewall or labelling, which means it can be driven in heavy snow.
